Quality Pays Dividends For Binz

When John and Elizabeth Harris of Basingstoke-based Spencer and Peyton Funeral Directors 
needed to replace their Nilsson hearse and limousine there was never any real question 
about where the replacement vehicles would come from.

The second-generation family-run business, established in 1961, had dealt with Peter Smith, 
Chief Executive of Binz UK for many years and knew that the quality of service provided by 
the firm was second-to-none. That and the quality of the Binz products meant that there was 
no real alternative. “To be fair,” said John Harris, “We did see how some other vehicles were 
manufactured. With safety in mind we felt that the Binz product, manufactured with Mercedes-
Benz engineering approval and assistance was the only vehicle that inherited the original 
Nilsson tradition of vehicle manufacturer authorised chassis modifications.”

Peter Smith, added, “We are of course delighted with the recognition of our service and of the 
quality of the product we offer. Binz takes a great deal of effort to ensure that not only do the 
cars look good internally and externally, but that the engineering meets the highest standards 
possible.

“In today’s litigious climate we don’t want to take any risks with our clients’ businesses and 
reputations by offering anything less than the best available. That is why we took on the Binz 
distributorship and that is why we work with Binz in Germany to ensure that we always have 
the latest technical back up and adopt the latest safety developments at the earliest 
opportunity.”

The iF Design award-winning five door hearse comes with a full Mercedes-Benz engineering 
warranty, optically-clear curved glass viewing windows and Binz's own unique Rise and Fall 
deck. A casket restraint bar is standard, and ample space is provided for floral tributes either 
on top of the coffin or along both sides of the deck.

Spencer and Peyton's new six door Binz limousine shares with the hearse a design that has 
been developed in collaboration with the manufacturer of the base vehicle. This has allowed 
Binz engineers to retain the E-Class's Air-MATIC air-suspension system, which apart from 
enhancing passenger comfort, is integrated with the active ride and vehicle stability systems. 
All of which have been re-calibrated in concert with Mercedes-Benz itself to precisely match 
the revised on-road dynamics of the car's extended wheelbase.
